Regular ferry service returns between Dartmouth and Halifax with repaired vessel

15-minute ferry service resumes between Dartmouth and Halifax with return of Vincent Coleman

The Vincent Coleman ferry that operates between Alderney Landing and downtown Halifax returned to service Tuesday following repairs.

With the return of the ferry at 10:15 a.m., service between downtown Dartmouth, N.S., and the Halifax waterfront will operate on its usual schedule -- every 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. on weekdays.

The Vincent Coleman was taken out of service in January because of a steering issue that “required specialized replacement parts and it returns to service following testing and sea trials,” said the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The ferry service had been operating on a 30-minute schedule while the Vincent Coleman was undergoing repairs.

The Craig Blake remains out of service due to a significant repair that is expected to keep it out of water until later this year.

The Halifax to Dartmouth ferry is the oldest saltwater service in North America, dating back to the mid-1700s.

The current fleet of five boats is between seven and 12 years old.
