Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is advising residents that it will be enforcing the winter parking ban Monday from 1 to 6 a.m. in both Zone 1 (central) and Zone 2 (non-central) to allow crews to clear streets and sidewalks. An early spring snowstorm is forecast for the region Sunday into Tuesday. Vehicles are not allowed on municipal streets during the hours of the ban. Officers will be ticketing vehicles interfering with sidewalk clearing, said a new release from HRM. Residents are able to determine which zone they’re in by searching their address using the interactive tool available here. Vehicles can be towed any time of year, day or night, if they are interfering with snow-clearing operations in accordance with the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act. Residents are reminded that clearing snow from their property onto the sidewalk violates a Halifax by-law. HRM has tools to address non-compliance with the by-law. Portable objects including planters and lawn decorations near sidewalks should be removed before winter. Permanent objects should be marked with a reflector that will be visible to work crews. The overnight winter parking ban is in effect until March 31, 2026. Residents can sign up for automated notifications. Updates are also available at halifax.ca/snow or by calling 311.
