A 40-year-old woman from South Scots Bay has died after a fatal crash that occurred in Canaan, N.S., on Thursday. Kings District RCMP and emergency crews responded to the reported collision around 11:10 p.m. in the 500 block of English Mountain Road. A Jeep Liberty had reportedly left the road and struck a power pole, causing an outage in the area. A man, believed to be an occupant of the Jeep, informed a nearby resident that a woman was injured before leaving the area on foot. Upon arrival at the scene, officers reportedly found her inside the Jeep. The woman was taken to hospital by EHS with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead. Police say efforts to find the man, including with use of a drone, were unsuccessful. The roadway was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the location. Kings District RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and ask anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them at 902-679-5555. For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
