A 24-year-old man of Georgeville, N.S., is facing multiple charges related to offences in the province. Police received multiple reports of thefts from businesses in Aulds Cove, Paqt’nkek First Nation and the Town of Antigonish between July 28 and Aug. 18. The RCMP says the reports all involved the same man, whom they identified as Tristan Deyoung. “Investigators learned that, in addition to multiple reports of shoplifting, the man had repeatedly left gas stations without paying for fuel,” reads a news release from RCMP on Tuesday. On Aug. 9, an officer on patrol in Antigonish observed the suspect’s vehicle, a Buick Lacrosse, in Beech Hill. The officer tried to make a traffic stop but the Buick fled on Highway 4. The RCMP says the police did not pursue the vehicle in the interest of public safety. RCMP in Cavendish, P.E.I., found Deyoung at a campground last Thursday. “When officers attempted to arrest him, he fled on foot through a swampy area,” says RCMP. Officers and police dog services arrested him and seized the Buick. Deyoung was transported back to Nova Scotia and is charged with 19 offences: His had his first court appearance at Antigonish provincial court on Monday and remains in custody pending future appearances.
