Firefighters responded to a fire at a residence in Dartmouth, N.S., Friday. Crews were dispatched to 52 Kennedy Drive around 2:30 p.m. following reports of smoke coming from a duplex residence, said a post from Halifax Professional Fire Fighters. The first crew to arrive began a “transitional attack” – directing water at a window or door that is venting flames before entering the structure. “This tactic helps knock down the main body of fire, slow its spread, and improve conditions for both firefighters and any potential occupants before crews advance inside to complete extinguishment,” said the post. All occupants safely escaped the duplex and nobody was injured. A family pet succumbed to smoke inhalation. The primary residential unit sustained heavy damage but firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent unit or other properties, said the post.
