Halifax families are kicking off March Break by filling some of the cities popular attractions. Inside the Discovery Centre, nearly every corner of the building was filled with families exploring exhibits and watching live demonstrations. “We look forward to this every year. It’s a great time to communicate science and have a great time with families,” said Ryan Jameson, Director of Science Education at the Discovery Centre. With large crowds expected throughout the week, the centre has adjusted its schedule to allow for more families. “We have so much going on this week. We’ve broken it into two sections in the day, 9-12 and then at 1 we reset and get all the chemistry experiments and reset for the afternoon as well,” said Jameson. While the discovery centre was packed with visitors, along the Halifax waterfront, it was much quieter. Cloudy skies and rain expected later in the week appeared to keep most people away, though a few families still stopped to take in the ocean view. One visiting father said he brought his young daughter to the waterfront so she could see the water while they are in Nova Scotia. “We’re going to try to find some seashells and other stuff. We have friends here, go see them and then probably go to Peggy’s Cove,” he said. For many families, March Break is a chance to spend time together, whether that means exploring museums, visiting attractions, or simply enjoying time off from school.
