An emergency alert was issued Saturday morning following a home invasion and shooting in Cape Breton. According to Cape Breton Regional Police, a shooting victim arrived at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital around 7:30 a.m. with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the 30-year-old man told officers he was shot at a house on Alexandra Street in Sydney earlier Saturday morning. “Information was received that three males wearing masks forced their way into a residence, shot the victim, and then left the area in a vehicle, described as a Toyota Camry,” police said in a news release Saturday. An emergency alert was issued around 8:30 a.m. warning the public and asking people to avoid the area of Alexandra Street. A second alert was shared around 11 a.m. saying police believe they have located the suspect vehicle in the Woodbine Road area of Marion Bridge. Police said the suspects are believed to have ran away. Officers had been searching for the suspects in the area of Woodbine Road, but cleared the scene shortly before 2 p.m. According to police, there is no further risk to public safety. The emergency alert was cancelled around 2 p.m. Police said officers continue to investigate and search for the suspects. They said they “can confirm that this was not a random incident” and that the persons involved are all known to each other. As of Saturday afternoon, police said investigators remain at the Alexandra Street house processing the scene.
