The Nova Scotia RCMP is investigating the discovery of human remains in Colchester County. Police say officers received a report of possible human remains found in a wooded area near Debert, N.S., on July 22. The remains are those of a man and police believe criminality was a factor in his death. However, investigators are still trying to confirm the man’s identity and determine how he died, with assistance from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. “Since the man’s remains were discovered, extensive searches have been conducted in the area,” said Cpl. Mandy Edwards, public information officer with the Nova Scotia RCMP. “We understand there’s been rumour and speculation within the community, and that this may’ve caused distress. However, our primary responsibility is to protect our ability to investigate.” Police say the investigation is in the early stages and they won’t be releasing any additional information at this time.
