Seventy-seven new child-care spaces will be opening in Lunenburg, N.S., next summer. The Nova Scotia government says it’s giving about $4.5 million to the Lunenburg Day Care Centre on Lincoln Street to help it expand. The expanded centre is expected to open in July 2027 with 10 more infant spaces, 54 toddler spaces, and 13 preschool spaces. The centre, which first opened in 1973, will have a total of 190 spaces once the expansion is complete. “As Lunenburg continues to grow, the need for additional child-care spaces has never been greater,” said Nicole Steves, executive director of the Lunenburg Day Care Centre, in a statement Monday. “In a rural area like ours, access to child care is more than a service – it gives parents the confidence to pursue employment, support local businesses and invest in their futures, knowing their children are safe, nurtured and thriving.” The funding is coming from the Canada-Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
