Saint John police officer allegedly injured during arrest of wanted man

A man serving a sentence for – among other offences – assaulting a peace officer is facing a new charge of assaulting a Saint John police officer during an arrest on Thursday.

Brady Crain, 30, failed to comply with the conditions of his statutory release and a warrant was issued for his arrest on June 6, according to the Saint John Police Force.

Police found Crain in Uptown Saint John on Thursday and he fled on foot.

“During the arrest, an officer was injured and transported to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” a news release from police reads.

Crain was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Crain, a first-time federal offender, is serving a two-year sentence for:

• break and enter with intent
• eight counts of failure to comply with an order
• two counts of assaulting a peace officer
• assault with intentional use of force
• flight from a peace officer
• two counts of taking a motor vehicle/vessel without consent
• two counts of failing to attend court
• mischief in relation to other property
• possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
• obstructing a public/peace officer

Crain was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
