One of the world’s largest retailers has officially broken ground in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. Construction is now underway on a new Costco Wholesale location at 345 Lyons Court. Known worldwide for its membership-based warehouses, Costco operates hundreds of locations across Canada, including one now conveniently closer to home. According to the town, the $50 million project is expected to create more than 370 jobs and has become one of the biggest private-sector investments ever seen in the community. For many residents and cottagers, the store is more than just a place to shop. The warehouse will reduce the need to travel to Barrie or other nearby locations for bulk shopping trips. Town officials say the Costco will feature a 162,000-square-foot warehouse, gas bar, tire centre and seasonal garden centre. Once built, officials adding it will become one of the largest commercial developments along the Highway 26 corridor. “Developments such as Food Basics, Shoppers Drug Mart and the Hampton Inn are expanding services, giving residents more choice, and supporting our year-round economy,” said the town in an email to CTV News. According to an April release, the investment supports the town’s ongoing efforts to attract major employers and strengthen Wasaga’s commercial tax base. Other recent investments throughout the town include Sunray Group’s $60 million Marriott hotel project and Stonebridge Building Group’s $90 million mixed-use development. Construction is expected throughout the coming months, with the store anticipated to welcome customers as early as fall 2026.
