N.B. train station celebrates 125 years as travel hub, completion of key upgrades

A train station in McAdam, N.B., is celebrating heritage preservation and sustainable modernization Tuesday after 125 years as a travel hub.

The McAdam Railway Station, officially opened in 1901, is located a few kilometers from the New Brunswick-Maine border crossing.

For decades it served as a connection point for Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) lines running north, south, east, and west.

Now a museum and events space, the railway station has undergone a series of upgrades, including a new HVAC system and roof-mounted solar panels. The improvements are expected to reduce energy costs by 50 per cent, allowing for expansion of year-round public access, and future development of the building’s second and third floors.

The McAdam Historical Restoration Commission Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the region’s railroading heritage. They’ve planned a 125^th anniversary celebration and ribbon cutting for Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The McAdam Railway Station is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week, all summer long.
