The Susan Holt government says 179 net new doctors have been hired in New Brunswick since the beginning of 2025. Of that number, 72 are family medicine specialists and 107 are specialists in other fields, including psychiatry and pediatrics. The numbers were provided Monday during a news conference in Fredericton, about six months after a similar update. “We have seen the largest net increase in physicians in New Brunswick’s history since January 2025,” said Holt. From January 2025 to August 2026, 515 new net registered nurses and 402 new net licensed practical nurses were recruited. “We are seeing the results of the model of collaborative care that our government has made a generational investment in,” said Holt. To date, 22 collaborative care clinics have been announced in New Brunswick with the expectation of attaching 29,500 New Brunswickers to a primary care provider. “We are confident that we will achieve our target of 30 clinics by 2027,” said Holt, who attributed the clinics to 20 per cent decline in non-urgent emergency room visits since early 2025. The latest numbers provided last month suggest 619,354 people are attached to a primary care provider in New Brunswick, while 262,758 people still have no family doctor.
