A man has been sentenced to 14 months in jail for dangerous driving and fleeing police in Oak Bay, N.B. St. Stephen RCMP officers were patrolling the community on May 18 when they spotted a vehicle being driven “in a dangerous manner.” Police activated their emergency lights and tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused to stop and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. “Members were able to quickly locate the vehicle and successfully deployed a spike belt, which safely disabled the vehicle and brought it to a stop,” said the RCMP in a news release Monday. “The driver, a 39-year-old man, then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly arrested and taken into custody.” Ryan Beaumaster was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and operating a vehicle while being prohibited, in Saint John provincial court on May 19. He was remanded into custody, pending a future court appearance. Beaumaster returned to court on July 16, where he received the 14-month jail sentence.
