Emergency crews respond to gas leak in Saint John, N.B.

The City of Saint John issued a shelter-in-place advisory Monday morning after a natural gas leak at 4 Water St.

The gas utility has since controlled the leak.

“Crews are notifying people in the surrounding buildings that a shelter in place is no longer in order, and that it is safe to return to the area,” the city writes in an update.

According to the city’s social media, occupants of buildings north of the rupture were advised to close windows and shut off all ventilation systems.

Saint John police specifically noted residents on Princess Street to King Street, Chipman Hill and Market Square should stay inside.

Members of the public are still asked to avoid the immediate area where utility crews are on the scene.

The city says updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
