Travel is stressful, especially during the busy holiday season. An elf at the Greater Moncton Airport is trying to make the journey as festive as the destination. His name is Fle. “The YQM Magic campaign with Fle was really to bring the audience through a fun and engaging way that would be memorable for them to see what are holiday travel tips that they need to remember,” says Lauren Guitard with Moncton Airport Communications. Fle appears in a social media campaign that highlights those reminders, such as allowing extra time at the airport and preparing for security screening during the holidays, especially with service animals. “It can be a really stressful time,” says Guitard. She says they wanted to make sure that people travelling with service animals felt welcome. Joe Wynberg is the man playing Fle in the campaign and an employee at the Moncton airport. “A human, life-sized elf running around the airport is not something that is usually done,” Wynberg says. “I have fun doing it.” Airport officials say there has been a lot of encouraging engagement online. Guitard says marketing is often trial and error, but the community response has been overwhelmingly positive. “We saw a lot of reshares through our social media,” she says. “We are hoping to continue the YQM Magic for the following holiday seasons to come.” For more New Brunswick news, visit our dedicated provincial page.
