A bonded truck headed for Campobello Island is being held at the Canada–U.S. International Border at the St. Stephen–Calais crossing, according to a New Brunswick Member of Parliament. Campobello Island is a Canadian island located off the coast of Maine. It can be accessed seasonally by ferry or year-round by bridge via Lubec, Maine — about 80 kilometres by road from the St. Stephen-Calais border crossing. “The bonded truck runs daily weekdays to service Campobello’s remote island community. All the truck’s contents are destined to Campobello and the doors sealed with a customs tag,” reads a Tuesday social media post by John Williamson, MP for the riding of New Brunswick Southwest. Williamson says the truck contains the community’s Canada Post mail along with items on U.S. government’s banned import list, such as milk. “My office and I are working with the Canadian government and United States Embassy to resolve this impasse,” reads the post.
