Following some weekend rain and showers, temperatures will rise in the Maritimes over the next few days. A weather front arriving at the end of the week is likely to moderate the heat by Friday and the weekend. Warm-to-hot conditions Temperatures will increase as the Maritimes falls under a ridge in the jet stream that’s currently centred over Ontario, but is building eastward. For Tuesday, daytime highs will reach the high 20s and low 30s for much of New Brunswick. Nova Scotia and P.E.I. will see mid-to-high 20s, but it should be slightly cooler along the coast. Conditions for Wednesday look much the same. A weak weather front dipping in from the north may bring temperatures down a few degrees on Thursday and will be accompanied by a low chance of showers. Two more weather fronts will cross the Maritimes on the weekend, bringing showers and more moderate temperatures. Sunday’s rain and showers The rain and showers on Sunday totaled 10-to-30 mm for a large portion of the Maritimes. Exceptions included lower rain amounts for parts of Nova Scotia’s South Shore and some higher totals due to thunderstorms and downpours for parts of southern New Brunswick and P.E.I. A few reports are coming in between 40 and 60 mm. We are now into, on average, the driest period of the year for the Maritimes. That is typically June, July, and August. Getting a round of rain early this month can certainly be beneficial. As above, there is a chance of showers on Thursday and then again on the weekend. Neither system looks like a good soaker for the region, though, with the showers most likely to bring rain amounts of a few-to-several millimetres.
