If you feel like the rain has been never-ending this month, you’re right: October has been downright soggy in the Capital Region.

In fact, in Victoria, it has rained every day in October except the 5th, 9th, 10th and 11th. That’s 27 days with rain in the month; a new record for days with rain in October. The previous record, according to Environment Canada, was 25 days set in 1985 and 1967.

So far this month (not including today, October 31st), Victoria has had 226.6 millimetres of rain. That’s almost triple the average of 88.1 mm! And that makes October 2016 the second wettest October on record since 1940. Only October 2003 had more rain, recording 318.8 mm at the airport.

Fortunately, the timing of today’s rain was confined to the early part of the day. Trick-or-treaters in Greater Victoria will be thrilled to have dry weather during prime candy-gathering hours of 3-9 p.m.

Looking back at past Halloween’s, since 2000 it has only rained on little ghouls and goblins seven times during the hours of 5 and 9 p.m. Things are looking spook-tacular for tonight!

This evening’s dry weather is a nice treat, but it doesn’t last long. Showers will develop in some spots later in the evening and the first week of November sees a series of systems bringing unsettled weather to the south coast of B.C.
