Last night as I walked through Victoria’s Centennial Square I had to stop for a moment and record the wind whipping through the trees. A really strong gust blows through at about 17 seconds into the video.

Northeasterly winds topped 100km/h in the Capital Region overnight.

The intense winds were the result of a building Arctic ridge along the mainland coast that sent bitterly cold winds rushing out through the inlets and valleys towards Vancouver Island.

Fortunately, the winds have died down now. The wind warning for Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands is no longer in effect.

Now we’re left with cold and clear conditions; something we should be getting used to by now, as we’ve had about four or five cold snaps like this since December! Enjoy the sunshine. It takes the edge off the cold.
