Which Manitoba community had its wettest June on record?

Some Manitoba communities are working to dry off after a wet June.

Data from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) shows 269.4 mm of precipitation fell in Swan River last month – representing the most rain to fall on the town in 100 years. The total rainfall is also more than three times what the town typically sees in an average June.

ECCC data shows the rainfall in Emerson as the second highest in June on record with 188.3 mm of precipitation, and Dauphin’s 211.3 mm ranked as the third in the town’s history. Churchill and Thompson also saw some of the highest rainfall totals for June in ECCC records.

Winnipeg saw twice the normal amount of precipitation that usually falls in June with 154.2 mm marking the 11^th wettest June on record. In some areas of the city, more than two-thirds of that fell during a catastrophic storm on June 9.

On the other end of the spectrum, Lynn Lake and Flin Flon experienced drier than normal months with 28.6 mm and 41.4 mm of precipitation respectively.

Environment Canada data also reveals average temperatures across much of the province were normal for June, though Thompson and Lynn Lake experienced warmer Junes than usual.

Additionally, ECCC meteorologists confirmed seven tornadoes in Manitoba last month:

• Ste. Anne (June 9)
• Rossburn (June 28)
• Winnipeg – Whyte Ridge (June 29)

The meteorologist added an unconfirmed tornado near Roblin on June 28 is still under investigation.
