More than one hundred teens will take to the gridiron this fall, thanks to a new grant. That’s because the Winnipeg Football Club’s Blue Bomber Youth Football Initiative is getting an injection of cash from the province. The Manitoba government is giving $180,000 to expand the program to two high schools: General Wolfe and Churchill. “The Manitoba government’s investment is a direct investment in Manitoba youth and we’re grateful for their support in helping young people develop lifelong skills: resilience, teamwork and grit,” said Wade Miller, the club’s CEO, in a statement. The funding will create as many as 120 spots for teens aged 13 or 14 in the upcoming season. Registration, equipment, and transportation costs will be covered by the grant. The province noted another school might be added to the program in 2027.
