A snapping turtle crossing the road brought traffic to a standstill on University Crescent Monday morning.
A young woman initially picked the turtle up to help it cross but fearing it could bite her she put it back down to cross on its own.
“I didn’t want it to get hit by traffic and make sure it made its way safely to wherever it was going,” said Janelle Gulay.
Eventually the slow moving turtle did make it across all the lanes of traffic and make its way into a wooded area.
According to online nature magazine Nature North, it is not uncommon to see snapping turtles in Manitoba as they move from one body of water to another or females search for nesting sites.
