Report recommends discount if Winnipeggers pay property taxes early

The City of Winnipeg is considering giving a discount to people who pay their property taxes early.

The city’s public service recommends offering a discount for Winnipeggers who pay their property taxes early next year.

A report to the city’s executive policy committee recommends giving residents a 2.4 per cent discount on realty and personal property taxes if they are paid in January or February 2026.

Property taxes are typically due on the last working day of June, according to the city.

“The accelerated cash flow generated by the prepayment of realty, personal property and business taxes increases the City’s short-term investment opportunities for the period January to June,” the report said, noting in 2025 the city collected $3.6 million in early payments.

It estimates a similar uptake this year.

The report is set to be discussed by the executive policy committee next Tuesday.
