A former Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback is back in blue and gold. On Tuesday, the Bombers announced they acquired quarterback Dru Brown from the Ottawa RedBlacks along with a second-round pick in the 2027 CFL Draft. Winnipeg is sending Ottawa its 2027 first-round pick and a second-round selection in 2028 in return. Brown, a member of the 2021 Grey Cup champion squad, spent three seasons in blue and gold from 2021 to 2023. He appeared in 38 games with Winnipeg, going 2-1 in three starts before the Bombers traded his negotiation rights to Ottawa in 2024. The American quarterback threw for 6,384 yards and tossed 32 touchdowns during his two-season tenure in Ottawa. Brown joins a Bombers quarterback corps alongside starter Zach Collaros, rookie Taylor Elgersma, and Bryce Perkins. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers return to action Thursday night at Princess Auto Stadium against the Edmonton Elks.
