Rescue crews are searching for two people believed to have been trapped in a sinking vehicle. A pickup truck driving onto Cedar Lake fell through the ice Tuesday, RCMP said in a media release. Crews are looking for a man and a woman, whom RCMP said went under with the truck. RCMP said officers, along with Grand Rapids Fire Department and Manitoba Hydro were called around 1:20 a.m. to an area near Manitoba Hydro’s boat launch, which is west of the Grand Rapids Generating Station.“Tracks were seen leading from the boat ramp out onto the ice,” the release said. The pickup truck was found by RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team Wednesday afternoon. “The two occupants were not found within the vehicle.” RCMP said earlier in the search, firefighters searched nearby open water while an RCMP drone looked for any heat signatures in or near the water. It said none were located. The Underwater Recovery Team and Grand Rapids RCMP are continuing to investigate.
