After severe weather Sunday night in southwestern Manitoba, another round could be on the way across the south on Monday. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) confirmed a Sunday evening tornado near Rossburn. The weather agency, in collaboration with the Northern Tornadoes Project, is investigating reports of a second twister near Roblin. Other communities saw sizeable hail and strong winds gusts from Sunday evening into early Monday morning. The weather agency said there is concern for severe thunderstorms across much of southern Manitoba on Monday. ECCC’s thunderstorm outlook for Monday shows a large swath of the south, including Winnipeg and Brandon, at risk for all severe thunderstorm threats, including hail, wind gusts, rain, and tornadoes. According to the weather agency, a warm front associated with an approaching low from the United States could trigger thunderstorms in the southeast on Monday afternoon and could produce tornadoes. ECCC said thunderstorms are expected to continue well into the night in southern Manitoba as the low crosses the region. Meanwhile, ECCC said scattered thunderstorms are possible on Monday in northern Manitoba. Wildfire smoke will also continue to spread in the region on Monday, particularly in the northwest.
