The sun is shining on Winnipeg and the rest of southern Manitoba as many kids head back to school Wednesday. Temperatures across the south will reach seasonal highs in the low 20s. The only fly in the ointment will be strong and gusty northwest winds. Central parts of the province, including Norway House and The Pas, will see a mix of sun and cloud with afternoon highs in the upper teens and low 20s. Winds will be considerably lighter than in the south, except for eastern areas, including Island Lake. Most northern regions will also enjoy a mix of sun and cloud Wednesday, with afternoon highs in the mid- to upper teens. There is also a low chance of showers across parts of the north, including Lynn Lake in the northwest and Shamattawa and York in the northeast. Shower and non-severe thunderstorms are crossing northwestern Ontario Wednesday afternoon, but most areas should also see at least some sunshine once any precipitation ends. Daytime highs will reach the upper teens and low 20s. Although we’ve now moved into meteorological fall, summertime heat will return to Winnipeg and the south on Thursday. Daytime highs will soar into the mid- to upper 20s under a mix of sun and cloud. By Friday, temperatures will return to normal early September highs in the low 20s. If you’re heading to the Banjo Bowl matchup between the Bombers and the Saskatchewan Roughriders Saturday at Princess Auto Stadium, dress warmly. More cloud than sun is expected with an afternoon high of just 15 C.
