By early July standards, it will be a cool and cloudy day in Winnipeg and across southern Manitoba. Daytime highs will only reach the low 20s, but humidex values will feel like the upper 20s. While the Parkland region continues to contend with overland flooding and washed out roads and highways from excessive rainfall, the region will be dry Thursday afternoon. However, more precipitation will return to the area soon. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said strong thunderstorms in Saskatchewan Thursday will track into western Manitoba Friday morning. Although not a certainty, showers or thunderstorms could reach Dauphin by Thursday night. Further south, residents should keep their eyes on the sky Thursday. ECCC expects severe thunderstorms will develop this afternoon in southern Saskatchewan, adding the highest tornado risk will be along and south of the Trans-Canada Highway up to the Manitoba border. Showers will fall across the southwest on Friday, including Brandon, Dauphin and Swan River, while possibly spreading to Winnipeg and the southeast. Meanwhile, high pressure over northern Manitoba is keeping the sky clear on Thursday. But while the sun is shining this afternoon, smoke from wildfires lingers over many communities. ECCC said northeasterly winds will keep it mostly aloft.
