Special weather statement issued for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent Friday afternoon.

The weather agency is warning that rain is expected Saturday and could cause flooding. Due to recent wet weather, the ground is already near saturation and cannot absorb much more.

This will be in place through Saturday afternoon.

It is also reporting a cold front hitting the region on Saturday, bringing a risk of thunderstorms.

Here’s a full look at your forecast:

Friday night: Increasing cloudiness. Showers beginning before morning, a risk of thunderstorms. Wind south 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h before morning. Low 10 C.

Saturday: Showers ending in the afternoon, then cloudy. A risk of thunderstorms in the morning and early in the afternoon. Local amount 10 to 15 millimetres. Wind southwest 20 km/h, gusting to 40, becoming northwest. High 20 C, humidex 25 C.

Saturday night: Clearing late in the evening. Wind northwest 20 km/h, gusting to 40, becoming light after midnight. Low 3 C.

Sunday: A mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of showers. High 7 C.

Sunday night: Cloudy periods with a 40 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries. Low -3 C.

Monday: A mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. High 7 C.
