One dead, one in life-threatening condition after northeast Calgary shooting

Calgary police say a person has died after a shooting in a grocery store parking lot in the city’s northeast Monday evening.

Police say officers responded to a shooting in the parking lot of the North Hill Calgary Co-Op at 520 16 Ave. N.E. at just before 8 p.m. Monday.

Officers arrived on the scene found two men suffering with gunshot wounds.

Both were taking to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police said at 9:30 p.m. that one of those men had died.

Police say the suspects fled the area before officers arrived on scene. Nobody is in custody at this time, but police say the shooting was targeted and there is no active risk to the public.

There were several shoppers inside the store at the time of the shooting. Police say the store was placed in lockdown, but that has since been lifted.

There was a heavy police presence in the area on Monday night, with areas taped off.

There are no road closures in effect, but police are asking people to stay out of the area as the investigation continues.
