"Another day where nothing has really changed with the forecast and that trend will continue into the weekend, for the most part. An Air Quality Statement remains for most of East Vancouver Island due to wildfire smoke. Wind continue to blow off the water, especially for the south end and west side. Things will develop the same way they have for the past couple of days, as we get into the late night and overnight period wind picks up and then lightens through the day. We will see a small uptick temperature wise for the weekend and start of next week. Rain remains elusive through the first 7-10 days of June."

Man missing from Lake Cowichan found dead

A 39-year-old man who was reported missing from Lake Cowichan has been found dead. Mounties say the body of Matthew Mueller was discovered on Tuesday.

Matthew Mueller, 39, was last seen on May 30 but was in telephone contact with his family the following day, when he was reported missing, according to the Lake Cowichan RCMP. (RCMP)

An out-of-control wildfire on Vancouver Island surged in size Tuesday, covering more than a square kilometre and forcing intermittent closures of the only highway to Port Alberni, Tofino and Ucluelet.
