The Vancouver Goldeneyes named Delaney Collins as the team’s newest assistant coach on Thursday. Collins joins the coaching staff while also being the current head coach of the Hungarian national women’s team. “We’re so excited to have Delaney join the Goldeneyes coaching staff,” said head coach Cara Gardner Morey in a statement from the team. “She is no stranger to finding success on the ice, and we can’t wait to get started on this season together.” She is also a former defender for Canada, winning three gold medals at the IIHF World Championships in 2000, 2004 and 2007. After retiring, Collins began her coaching career as an assistant coach with Mercyhurst University in Pennsylvania from 2011-2016. She has also worked as both head coach and assistant coach for Canada’s U18 women’s team between 2014-2018. Collins would begin working with the Hungarian national program in 2022, being named head coach in 2025. “It is a privilege to join the Vancouver Goldeneyes as we head into our second season,” said Collins. “I’m most excited about the potential of this group of players and the culture that has already been established in Vancouver.” Collins joins a staff led by Gardner Morey, who stepped away from the general manager role to take over head coaching duties from Brian Idalski, and Alison Izzi, who was named the team’s new GM last week. The Goldeneyes will begin its second season on Dec. 5 at home against the Seattle Torrent at Pacific Coliseum.
