Police are investigating after a convoy of e-vehicle riders was reported zooming through Vancouver’s Kerrisdale neighbourhood on Halloween—in an incident that left a 15-year-old injured. “Several families” flagged down officers to report a group of approximately 25 costumed riders driving dangerously on electric bikes, scooters and motorbikes, the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release Tuesday. “One responding patrol car was almost hit by a 15-year-old youth riding an e-dirt bike,” the department said. “The youth was allegedly travelling at 50-60 km/h, blew through multiple stop signs, and refused to stop for police before colliding with another vehicle.” The teenager was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries police described as minor. While some electric motorcycles are street legal, e-dirt bikes are not allowed on public streets and highways in B.C.—and riders can face steep penalties, including $598 fines for lacking insurance. The devices cannot be insured for on-road use in the province. Vancouver police said Saturday’s incident remains under investigation by the department’s Collision Investigation Unit. It’s unclear if anyone will face charges.
