2 arrested after stabbing in Nanaimo, RCMP say

Two suspects have been arrested after a stabbing Friday morning sent one man to hospital in Nanaimo, B.C.

The local RCMP detachment says the stabbing happened at approximately 10 a.m. in the 200 block of Old Victoria Road near the intersection with Milton Street.

Police spokesperson Const. Gary O’Brien said the incident scene is near a former church that is now being used as a yoga studio.

It’s still unclear exactly how or why the incident occurred, O’Brien said. Investigators closed the surrounding streets to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic as they gathered evidence and searched for the suspects.

The injured man’s condition is unknown at this time, according to a statement from the Nanaimo RCMP.

Around 2:30 p.m., the suspects—a man and a woman—were arrested without incident, police said in an update later Friday afternoon.

Police said community safety officers helped locate the suspects, and plainclothes officers and RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in the investigation.

Authorities did not share the names of the suspects in their update, and the pair has not yet been charged.
