A man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 65-year-old woman who disappeared last year in Nanaimo, B.C. Sherry Shelley was reported missing on Nov. 14, 2025, prompting an RCMP search of several locations connected to the Nanaimo woman. Later that day, officers responded to a report of a vehicle fire in a wooded area off College Drive, near the intersection with Highway 19, and found her remains. The Nanaimo RCMP did not announce the discovery for more than three weeks as the detachment’s Serious Crime Unit took conduct of what was now a homicide investigation. The B.C. Prosecution Service has since approved charges of second-degree murder and indignity to human remains against Cameron Compton, authorities said. Compton, who court records show was born in 1994, was arrested Monday evening, according to police. He remains in custody pending a court appearance.
