Man arrested for attack on cricket players in Vancouver park: police

A man who was interfering with a cricket game at a public park allegedly bear sprayed the players and broke one of their arms, police say.

A cricket game in Vancouver was violently interrupted on Saturday, according to authorities.

A group was gathered at Connaught Park in Kitsilano around 6 p.m. when a man walked across the pitch and “repeatedly” interfered with play, the Vancouver Police Department said in a statement Monday.

“Players and spectators asked him to leave, at which point the suspect allegedly became aggressive, shouting and swearing,” police said.

“The suspect then allegedly punched a 37-year-old player and bear-sprayed five others before fleeing the park. As the players followed him, the suspect allegedly turned around several times and continued to bear spray them.”

The suspect punched the same player again, before tackling him and breaking his arm, according to police. He was arrested and has since been released from custody, the statement added.
