B.C. man sprayed with ‘noxious substance’ after confronting youths over jaywalking: RCMP

Mounties in Metro Vancouver are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths on the street earlier this month.

The man made a police report on May 2 after an incident near the intersection of Shaughnessy Street and Lougheed Highway in Port Coquitlam.

“According to the victim he was walking near the intersection when he observed a group of youths jaywalking through traffic. When the victim confronted the youths about their behaviour, one of them challenged him to a fight at which point a second one sprayed him in the face with a noxious substance,” a statement from the Coquitlam RCMP said.

“The five youths then ran from the area.”

Authorities say the incident occurred around 9 p.m. and are urging anyone with information or video to contact investigators at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2026-10871.

“The victim advised the intersection was busy at the time, but no one stopped,” the statement from police noted.
