B.C. pursuing ‘legal action’ against OpenAI over Tumbler Ridge tragedy, attorney general says

Mayor Darryl Krakowka says demolishing the school and re-building a new one in a different location is part of the process of ‘due diligence.’

The B.C. government is preparing to pursue “legal action” against OpenAI over the Tumbler Ridge mass shooting, Attorney General Niki Sharma announced Tuesday.

Sharma said officials have retained legal counsel both locally and in California, where the artificial intelligence company is headquartered.

The province is going after both OpenAI and “its decision-makers” for the company’s “failure to notify law enforcement of the violent prompts made on its ChatGPT platform by the perpetrator,” Sharma said.
