Peel police leading investigation into child abuse allegations at former Robert Land Academy

A former student of Robert Land Academy is suing the military-style boarding school for $3.5 million.

Peel police are looking for information as they lead an investigation into alleged child abuse at a former military-style private boarding school for boys in the Niagara Region.

In a brief news release on Monday, Peel police said members of their Special Victims Unit are seeking to speak to anyone who may have information about the allegations at Robert Land Academy.

They did not say what prompted them to start the investigation into the academy that was located in West Lincoln, Ont., and operated between 1978 and 2025.

The school closed last year and filed an assignment for bankruptcy.

The private academy has faced multiple lawsuits in the past, alleging abuse.

A former student who launched a $3.5 million lawsuit against the school in February of last year claimed he was physically abused by staff and sexually assaulted by a student who was his supervisor from January 1997 to December 1999.

In October, former students and staff at the school called for stronger measures to protect private school students in the province, including criminal record checks on teachers.
