Matthew Andonovski carries Kitchener Rangers to Game 2 OT win

The Kitchener Rangers once again welcomed the Barrie Colts to the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium as the OHL championship series continued.

The game was scoreless until Brad Gardiner tucked one passed Kitchener’s Christian Kirsch to give Barrie a lead with less than one-and-a-half minutes left in the first period.

Gabriel Chiarot battled back for the blue shirts, drawing even halfway through the second period.

The joy was short-lived as Emil Hemming scored for Barrie just over a minute later.

The Rangers trailed the Colts going into the third period, and started shorthanded thanks to an unsportsmanlike conduct call against Jared Woolley.

But Carson Campbell came through with a goal less than 30 seconds off the faceoff.

The score remained knotted up at 2-all for most of the third period until Christian Humphreys stepped up with just moments left and gave Kitchener a 3 – 2 lead.

Things were looking promising for the Rangers as Barrie pulled their goalie in the dying moments of the game, but the Colts’ captain Kashawn Aitcheson could not be stopped and capitalized on a powerplay with 3.6 seconds left to force the game into overtime.

With less than two minutes left in the extra frame, Matthew Andonovski snapped in the game winning goal.

The Kitchener Rangers claim a 4 – 3 victory and now lead the series 2 – 0.

The series now moves to Barrie for Game 3 on Sunday at 6 p.m.
