Some fans paid thousands of dollars to attend Canada’s World Cup opener. Was it worth it?

Thousands joined the crowd, with many describing the way sports can bring different communities together. CTV News Toronto’s Sean Leathong reports.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is in full swing and the spirit of soccer is buzzing throughout Toronto, one of the host cities for this year’s tournament.

The first match for Canada took place on Friday at Toronto Stadium, which ended in a tie with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tickets for that match were costly. On game day, unsold seats were starting at $1,370 with premium front-row tickets listed as high as $3,135.

Even tickets for games not involving Team Canada, are expensive with seats to the Germany v. Cote d’Ivoire game on June 20 up for grabs at $970 a pop.

Many Canadians have told CTV News the steep prices are barring them from attending matches, with out-of-town visitors pointing to the additional costs of hotels and flights putting too much of a squeeze on their wallets.

But for fans who did attend the match at Toronto Stadium, was the price worth the experience of going to a World Cup game? We want to hear from you.
