Homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Port Colborne on Thursday night. In a news release, policed said officers were called to the area of Fares Street, north of Rodney Street, for reports of a shooting. They arrived to find a male suffering from an injury “consistent with a gunshot wound,” Niagara Regional Police said. The victim was rushed to hospital but later died. With the assistance of the Emergency Task Force, the scene was secured, police said, and a 30-year-old man was arrested. “The scene is being held for detectives from the Homicide and Forensic Services Units (FSU) to process,” the news release continued. “The circumstances surrounding the interaction between the victim and the suspect are still under investigation, however, detectives believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing risk to public safety.” The victim is not being publicly identified as police are still working to notify next of kin.
