WCBL All-Star Weekend brings top baseball talent to Saskatoon

Top talent from the Western Canadian Baseball League took centre stage at Cairns Field as Saskatoon hosted the league’s All-Star Weekend.

The event brought together players from teams across Alberta and Saskatchewan for a bunt competition and Home Run Derby on Saturday before Sunday’s All-Star Game.

Local baseball fans said they were excited to see the league’s best compete in Saskatoon.

“You get to see all the best players in the league in your home backyard. This is great,” Nathan Woynarski said.

“Saskatoon is a great sports city, so it’s nice to get out to things like this and support it,” Joshua Yuzik said.

Saskatoon Berries infielder Gael Salinas won the inaugural WCBL Bunt Competition, while Energy City outfielder David Simmons claimed the 2026 WCBL Home Run Derby title.

The weekend wrapped up with Team East defeating Team West 9-2 in Sunday’s All-Star Game.

WCBL commissioner Kevin Kvame announced Sylvan Lake, Alta., will host the league’s 2027 All-Star Weekend.
