Regina snowfall triggers residential plow

Snowfall in Regina this weekend has hit the threshold to trigger a full residential plow, according to the City of Regina.

Based on Environment Canada’s weather summary, Regina had between 17 and 20 centimetres of snow fall on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The city’s estimate puts that total over 25 centimetres through the two-day period – well above the 15 necessary for a residential plow.

“Residents are reminded and encouraged to remove their vehicles from the roads to help crews plow efficiently and on time,” the City said in a news release Friday.

Plow operations will begin next week on residential streets, as city crews move their focus from priority roads and snow routes.

Residents are encouraged to sign up to receive their alerts on when to move their cars through the Regina Sweep and Plow app, or online through the city’s website, which also includes a map of winter road maintenance and plowing progress.

“The City asks residents to slow down and be safe and to please stay back at least three to four car lengths from snow plowing and sanding equipment,” the release said.

In addition to the snowfall, Regina also clocked maximum wind gusts of 76 kilometres per hour during the storm, blowing fallen snow into drifts in many areas.
