A former Saskatoon music teacher has been sentenced for sexually assaulting his student. Raymond Eldon McHargue taught piano and organ lessons in Saskatoon from 1977 to 2020. He taught at a music store and from his home on Churchill Drive. McHargue was charged last year after police received a report he had sexually assaulted a boy between 1984 and 1988. The 88-year-old has been sentenced to two years less a day to be served in the community, followed by three years of probation. For the first six months, McHargue must remain inside his approved residence 24 hours a day — unless given permission to leave. After that, he’ll be subject to a curfew. McHargue must also complete programming, and faces restrictions on his contact with children. He will also be registered as a sex offender for life.
