Judicial review hearing for Quewezance sisters adjourned

Two Saskatchewan sisters fighting for a judicial review of their second-degree murder convictions had their case adjourned to a future date on Monday.

Sisters Odelia and Nerissa Quewezance have been involved in the justice system since their arrests in 1993.

A year later, they were convicted of the second-degree murder of 70-year-old Anthony Dolff of Kamsack.

The sisters were granted a conditional release in 2023 and have applied for a judicial review of their convictions on the grounds of a miscarriage of justice.

Nerissa Quewezance appeared via video at the Yorkton Court of King’s Bench on Monday.

The Crown consented to an adjournment until a dispute over the proper procedure is resolved, following an initial hearing on procedure and a subsequent hearing on the merits.

No date was set, as the matter is pending before the registrar and Associate Chief Justice Tochor.
