A 40-year-old man and 31-year-old woman from Regina have been charged following an incident that left a 36-year-old woman injured and a police officer assaulted. Police say officers were called to the 800 block of Elphinstone Street at 7 a.m. on July 11 for a report of a weapons offence involving a knife. Investigators say a traffic stop was conducted on a taxi on the 1100 block of Elphinstone Street, where officers approached a woman believed to be involved in the incident. During the interaction, police say a male approached the officer in a threatening manner and interfered with the investigation. The officer attempted to arrest the man for obstructing the investigation. He resisted arrest and assaulted the officer. Additional patrol units arrived on scene, taking the suspect into custody. The assaulted officer was assessed and treated for minor injuries. The incident was later determined to have started from an altercation that occurred an hour earlier at a residence on Rothwell Street. Police say a female suspect who was later found in the taxi cab, arrived at the home and stabbed a 36-year-old woman who answered the door before fleeing the area. She was taken to hospital and treated for a minor stab wound. The victim and the man who was later charged with assaulting a police officer then went to another home on the 1100 block of Elphinstone Street. Police say the female suspect arrived there a short time later, leading to a second altercation involving the victim and two other people. Everyone involved were known to each other. The 31-year-old woman is charged with assault with a weapon and failure to comply with probation order. The 40-year-old man is charged with assaulting a peace officer, and obstruction. Both of the accused are scheduled to make their first appearances in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 31.
