Three men charged after separate assaults on Regina police

Three men are facing charges in connection with assaults on police following three separate incidents this week in Regina.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the 1500 block of 12th Avenue for a disturbance, according to the Regina Police Service (RPS).When officers arrived, they located a suspect inside the building and learned he had assaulted another man.

The suspect refused to identify himself and was uncooperative while being taken into custody. While in detention, he allegedly spat at an officer.

A 43-year-old man is charged with assault, assaulting a peace officer, and obstruction. He made his first court appearance Monday in Regina Provincial Court.

In a separate incident Wednesday just after 5 p.m., an officer on patrol on Avonhurst Drive spotted a vehicle with an improperly secured licence plate and no rear bumper.

During the traffic stop, the driver exited the vehicle and approached the officer while shouting and acting aggressively. Police say he ignored commands to return to the vehicle.

A struggle took place between the suspect and officers as they tried to bring him into custody. A knife fell from the suspect’s pocket as he fell during the arrest.

After more officers arrived on scene, they were able to bring the suspect into custody.

As a result, a 65-year-old man is charged with offences under the Traffic Safety Act, as well as assault of a peace officer and resisting arrest.

He is scheduled to appear on those charges in Regina Provincial Court on May 27.

In a third incident, officers were called to a home in the Rosemont area around 11 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an unwanted guest.

Police say the suspect was found in the basement and refused to leave. When officers attempted to arrest him, he became combative and assaulted police before being taken into custody.

A 43-year-old man is charged with assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest. He is also scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on May 27.
