Saskatchewan towing company rescues moose from ice

A Saskatchewan towing company is getting plenty of attention after giving a helping hand to a moose trapped in ice.

Rebel Towing, based in Kelvington, Sask., posted online that they were headed to a call Sunday when they spotted the moose in a frozen ditch off a grid road in the area.

“Had to help him,” the brief post said.

The moose appeared to have fallen through thin ice after walking across the frozen patch of water.

The tow-truck driver backed up and used a harness to hoist the moose out of the water and onboard, according to Rebel Towing. They then dropped the animal off at a farmyard with a blanket to warm up and dry off before wandering on to, presumably, regular moose activities.

But it was a first-of-a-kind rescue the tow truck operator is unlikely to forget.

The post showing the rescue step-by-step had more than 18,000 Facebook likes as of Monday morning.
